    Review for Into The Dark
    Author: Cindy Gerard

Reviewer Comments: Into the Dark is book six in the Bodyguard series and the story of Amy and Dallas who were introduced in book three, To the Brink. Dallas rescued Amy from a group of guerrillas in the Philippines and took her home to the U.S. where she promptly disappeared. Six months later she appears on his doorstep with a pocket full of fake IDs.

Dallas had never stopped thinking about the beautiful broken woman from the Philippines. When she appears at his apartment, he finds himself unable to let her go. He nags her until he discovers that she is traveling to Argentina to find answers about her kidnapping and the vegetative state her mother is in. Declining to be left behind, he travels with her into a terrorist plot and emotional healing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. After waiting a year to learn about Dallas and Amy, Ms. Gerard has offered a worthy story. The story acknowledges the pain and degradation that Amy lived through, but offers hope. Amy takes back her life; she learns self-defense and masters weaponry. The only problem for me is the timeline. Amy is gone for six months. During this time she miraculously overcomes months of rape and abuse. I’m not sure that half a year is long enough for a woman to become emotionally stable, but I understand that for the story to occur it can’t be years after Dallas is introduced.

Dallas suffers from P.T.D. and is unsure that the mathematical equation of two scarred people equaling a whole. He offers resistance to the sexual and emotional pull that exists between the couple out of a need to be the gallant hero. Dallas is supportive, yet strong. He is able to control his alpha tendencies without ever seeming weak. He is the hero that the heroine deserves. He can make tough decisions without forcing his heroine to become dependent upon him. Into the Dark is a great addition to the E.D.E.N. series. It is a fast paced novel that acknowledges the fact that blood ties often mean less than people assume. Just being related to someone by blood does not make a true family. Often the best and most loving families are made out of people who began as friends.
